PURPOSE

The temporary Special Assistant to the Provost, under general supervision, works as a senior advisor to the Provost. The temporary Special Assistant will provide the highest-level support on a special project to develop a service excellence model with outstanding customer/student communication for online programs. This position demands a broad team-oriented skill set including the ability to engage effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff across the campus, ability to undertake independent research to produce data-informed recommendations, aptitude for taking ownership of and successfully implementing projects with only general guidance, and outstanding communication, marketing, and customer/student service skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, design and implement programs and establish direction, policies and procedures related to this project. Participate with the authority of the Provost on high-level task forces, campus committees, and planning groups and ensures that commitments to deliver specific work projects are met. Collaborate in the development of agendas and materials for key campus and system-wide meetings.

• Develop and analyze data to assist in decision making. Conduct research on various issues that may be highly sensitive or confidential in nature and may require innovative solutions for this project.

• Analyze activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives and communicates processed data via reports and visual representations.

• Lead and/or participate in organizational design within and across units; ensure efficient re-structuring of work and staffing; obtain appropriate university advice and resources in planning and implementation stages.

• Provide the highest level of advising on academic matters and make recommendations as appropriate.

• Stay well-informed and keep abreast of current and emerging issues in higher education that may impact this project.

• Liaise with senior university academic faculty and administrators on this initiative.

• Respond to and resolve a variety of complex issues; manage sensitive issues that require expedient and diplomatic action; build strategic relationships with key constituencies and stakeholders; and exercise sound judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

• Doctoral degree in Communication, Marketing or related discipline.

• Seven (7) years of experience in higher education to include experience with communication and marketing.
