Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time.  Life Cycle Engineering consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers.  Our Life Cycle Engineering disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation.  Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines:  Reliability System Safety and Supportability.

What You Will Do:

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Software Safety Engineer to join us on the Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team in Tewksbury, MA.

As a Software Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Analysis of software and/or firmware (IAW MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, etc.)
• Work with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code.
• Work with software and system test, and tactical operations to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
• Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
• Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through deployment to gain concurrence with software builds.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Performing Software and/or Firmware analyses.
• Execution of the Software System Safety Program.
• Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors).
• Assist with preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval.
• Assist with software safety technical reviews.
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards.
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.

This position is posted as ONSITE and is based at Raytheon’s Tewksbury, MA location.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically Requires:  Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 0 - 2 years of relevant engineering or statistics or data analysis experience.  An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
• Experience with Computer Science, Software Engineering, Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical or Firmware Engineering.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs.
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.
• Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
