Your impact

Handshake is hiring a Software Engineer II on the Notifications Squad. As a member of our full-stack team, you will work with partners in product, design, and data to build technology and experiences that deliver relevant and high-quality notifications (email, push, in-app) and help guide students on their career journey. You will have the opportunity to lead projects, contribute to the roadmap, and grow your skills alongside our diverse, talented team.

Your role

• You get to architect and build engaging new features for a large and rapidly growing user base.
• You'll be working on a multi-functional team with other engineers, a designer, and a product manager, as well as additional partners in data, marketing, and many functions across the company.
• You’ll provide valuable feedback to influence our product and ensure that we are delivering the best experience to our users.
• We’ll rely on your experience in general engineering architecture discussions.
• You’ll help maintain a high level of code craftsmanship through thoughtful code review and design discussions.

You’ll work with these technologies

• React, TypeScript, Webpack, Redux
• Ruby on Rails
• Kubernetes, GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, Airflow

Your experience

• You have experience as a full stack engineer, with a significant focus on frontend development.
• You have demonstrated success working with partners in product and design to define, build, and ship great products.
• You are outcome-oriented and know how to lead large projects from idea to high quality delivery.
• You act with empathy when partnering with fellow engineers and coworkers.
• You are a problem solver and a critical thinker who can communicate effectively.
• You appreciate good documentation and procedures.
• You are proud of your craft and value clean code that scales to keep large teams productive

Bonus areas of expertise

• You have worked with ReactJS, GraphQL, Ruby, Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
• You have worked on consumer or large enterprise user-facing features at scale.
• You enjoy working in a distributed, collaborative environment.
• You prefer to be involved in the entire product development process, from ideation to building stages.
• You have great communication skills.

Compensation range

$127,000 - $170,000

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
