Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking the position of Software Engineer - Mainframe Developer in Atlanta, Georgia.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Software Engineer – Mainframe Developer will design, develop, test, and maintain robust software solutions in both mainframe and modern computing environments. The role includes: analyzing business and technical requirements and performing impact assessments to create detailed technical designs; building, maintaining, and optimizing production-ready software using mainframe languages and technologies such as COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, CICS, SQL, REXX, JCL, VSAM, and DB2; developing integrations between mainframe systems and modern interfaces, including CICS web services, z/OS Connect, and RESTful APIs; using enterprise development and testing tools such as IBM Developer for Z/OS, FileAid, ChangeMan, ServiceNow, WebSphere MQ, Zowe, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Visual Studio to support coding, debugging, and release management; conducting code reviews, managing defects, performing unit, integration, and regression testing, and coordinating deployment and post-production validation activities; maintaining accurate technical documentation of designs, processes, and code to support knowledge sharing and ongoing system maintenance; collaborating with cross-functional teams, providing clear and timely communication on project status, technical challenges, and solutions; and enforcing engineering, security, and compliance standards, monitoring system performance, and optimizing DB2 queries and other data structures for efficiency. Position may allow working from home within a commuting distance of worksite location.  Multiple Positions.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or Electronics Engineering plus 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience with mainframe application development in large-scale enterprise environments

Required Skills/Experience:
Must possess 5 years of experience with all of the following: mission-critical system development and support in regulated financial or enterprise environments; providing expert guidance in the Cards domain, encompassing complex credit card processing systems, impact analysis, solution design, and production support activities; mainframe programming languages and technologies including COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, CICS, SQL, REXX, JCL, VSAM, and DB2; developing integrations between mainframe systems and modern interfaces, including web services, z/OS Connect, and RESTful APIs; enterprise development, testing, and release management tools including IBM Developer for Z/OS, FileAid, ChangeMan, ServiceNow, WebSphere MQ, Zowe, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Visual Studio; performing code reviews; managing defects; conducting unit, integration, and regression testing; coordinating deployments and post-production validations; creating and maintaining technical documentation of software designs, processes, and code; and monitoring and optimizing system performance.
