Mission and Goals   

As a Software Engineer on our Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in supporting our O&O team by enhancing and optimizing our suite of websites. You’ll contribute to front-end development efforts, implement innovative solutions, and ensure our platforms deliver exceptional user experiences. This role reports directly to the Lead Software Engineer and works closely with fellow developers to bring high-impact projects to life. 

Objectives:

• Develop and maintain performant, responsive, and accessible user interfaces using HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and React (or similar frontend frameworks)

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, product, SEO, and analytics to clarify requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure project goals are met

• Independently manage development tasks from investigation and estimation to deployment and post-launch monitoring

• Customize and develop WordPress themes and plugins to support evolving website functionality and business needs

• Build and maintain content integrations using modern CMS platforms such as WordPress and Contentful

• Implement custom analytics and advertising integrations, such as Google Analytics and Adwords clickstream tracking

• Contribute to the full web development lifecycle from concept and architecture to implementation, testing, and deployment

• Communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders to provide updates, surface blockers, and ensure alignment

• Stay current with evolving frontend trends, tools, and performance best practices; bring curiosity and a problem-solving mindset to development challenges

Competencies:

• 3–5 years of experience as a software engineer, preferably in digital media, publishing, or personal finance

• Proficient in modern frontend development including HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and React; familiarity with TypeScript is a plus

• Strong experience with WordPress development, including custom themes and plugin creation using PHP

• Familiarity with headless CMS platforms such as Contentful and related content modeling best practices
