As a Software Engineer II - Application Support/SRE at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Banking Payments Team, you are part of an agile team that works to enhance, design, and deliver the software components of the firm’s state-of-the-art technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Also, through code and cloud infrastructure, you will configure, maintain, and monitor, and optimize applications and their associated infrastructure to independently decompose and iteratively improve on existing solutions. As an emerging member of a software engineering team, you execute software solutions through the design, development, and technical troubleshooting of multiple components within a technical product, application, or system, while gaining the skills and experience needed to grow within your role.
Job responsibilities
- Executes standard software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting
- Collaborates with other software engineers and teams to design and implement deployment approaches using automated continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines
- Collaborates with other software engineers and teams to design, develop, test, and implement availability, reliability, scalability, and solutions in their applications
- Implements infrastructure, configuration, and network as code for the applications and platforms in your remit
- Writes secure and high-quality code using the syntax of at least one programming language with limited guidance
- Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve the value realized by automation
- Gathers, analyzes, and draws conclusions from large, diverse data sets to identify problems and contribute to decision-making in service of secure, stable application development
- Proactively identifies hidden problems and patterns in data and uses these insights to drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture
- Supports the adoption of site reliability engineering best practices within your team
- Learns and applies system processes, methodologies, and skills for the development of secure, stable code and systems
- Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience
- Proficient in site reliability culture and principles and familiarity with how to implement site reliability within an application or platform
- Proficient in at least one programming language such as Python and Java/Spring Boot.
- Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Experience in observability such as white and black box monitoring, service level objective alerting, and telemetry collection using tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, and others
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Terraform
- Familiarity with container and container orchestration such as ECS, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages
- Experience across the whole Software Development Life Cycle
- Exposure to agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
- Emerging knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
