What’s the role?

Join Etsy as a Software Engineer II and be a vital part of our API Frameworks team. In this role, you will have the great opportunity to enhance the programming frameworks and tooling used by engineers throughout Etsy, empowering them to fetch and manage data more efficiently. Collaborating closely with product and API engineers, you will play a pivotal role in elevating the efficiency, safety, discoverability, and reliability of APIs at Etsy. As a team, you will drive innovation by formulating hypotheses, delivering impactful solutions, and measuring their effects.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager of API Frameworks and the base salary range will be 128,000 - 166,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s this team like at Etsy?

• API Frameworks is a team of 5 engineers (counting you!) plus an engineering manager, with product management support
• The team sits within an Enablement initiative, which is focused on enabling the success of teams across Etsy
• The team is looking for ways to make improve the experience of creating, contributing to, and maintaining APIs at Etsy, for everyone

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Work closely with backend PHP engineers to deliver new capabilities that enable engineers in a large variety of fields to communicate between clients and platforms.
• Collaborate with product teams and business partners across Etsy to find opportunities for impact.
• Craft software with testing, performance and observability in mind.
• Help plan and develop innovative solutions to complex system and business problems.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Proficiency in one or more programming scripting languages (such as PHP, Python, or Javascript)
• Understanding of API design principles and one or more patterns (REST, RPC, GraphQL, etc)
• Experience collaborating with a distributed team, across functions, subject areas, and timezones.
• A passion for solving problems, and finding innovative/efficient solutions to unique challenges.
• Having excellent communication skills
• Being invested in Etsy’s vision, mission, and values.
