General Notes

The experimental high-energy physics group in the Department of Physics invites applicants for a Software Developer position to develop, implement and maintain the IRIS-HEP software system ServiceX.  The ServiceX project aims to provide a next generation intelligent, highly-responsive, on-demand analysis data delivery system for the particle physics experiments at the Large Hadron Collider.

Purpose:

Research software engineer working on the ServiceX data delivery project. The candidate will take a leading role in designing, implementing, and supporting this project, which will be used for analysis of data from the Large Hadron Collider.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation (development of ServiceX server software and user client software; documentation)

  • Working with analysis facilities and users (monitoring feedback forums; working with sysadmins and users to resolve issues they report)

  • Software project management

Required Qualifications

  • Training in systems analysis and programming.

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years working in a software development position

  • Experience with Python

  • Experience in computer programming, software development or related area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with software project management. Experience participating in and leading a geographically distributed group of software developers.

  • Sustained, major contributions to a software project.

  • Familiarity with distributed applications, micro-service architecture, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with data analysis in the Python language, using frameworks such as pandas, Apache Parquet, and Awkward Array.

Salary Range

$65,000 - $75,000
