The experimental high-energy physics group in the Department of Physics invites applicants for a Software Developer position to develop, implement and maintain the IRIS-HEP software system ServiceX. The ServiceX project aims to provide a next generation intelligent, highly-responsive, on-demand analysis data delivery system for the particle physics experiments at the Large Hadron Collider.
Purpose:
Research software engineer working on the ServiceX data delivery project. The candidate will take a leading role in designing, implementing, and supporting this project, which will be used for analysis of data from the Large Hadron Collider.
Responsibilities
Implementation (development of ServiceX server software and user client software; documentation)
Working with analysis facilities and users (monitoring feedback forums; working with sysadmins and users to resolve issues they report)
Software project management
Required Qualifications
Training in systems analysis and programming.
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years working in a software development position
Experience with Python
Experience in computer programming, software development or related area
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with software project management. Experience participating in and leading a geographically distributed group of software developers.
Sustained, major contributions to a software project.
Familiarity with distributed applications, micro-service architecture, and Kubernetes.
Experience with data analysis in the Python language, using frameworks such as pandas, Apache Parquet, and Awkward Array.
Salary Range
$65,000 - $75,000
