About the Technology Department
The Technology team at Bridgewater engineers systems to understand the world. These systems synthesize and industrialize our global understanding into a hive mind of macroeconomic knowledge which enables us to educate and collaborate with the world’s most influential central banks and policy makers and carefully and strategically manage the world’s most important capital. Our technologists are engineering highly available, high performing and highly secure cloud platforms and infrastructure which support and scale our investing operations.
About the Portfolio Construction Technology Team
The goal of the Portfolio Construction department is to translate our understanding of how the global economy works into strategy specific portfolios. Embedded within the Portfolio Construction department is a uniquely talented technology team that builds and manages the tools that allow our portfolio strategists, investors, and operations teams to create and test new portfolio strategies and logic, construct portfolios, and manifest our desired portfolios to securities we can trade in the markets.
You Will Drive the Following Responsibilities
- Architect and design major software components, systems, and features in the Portfolio Construction space.
- Lead design discussions to provide business users with technical solutions
- Define and evolve of the team’s core set of best practices and SDLC
- Working closely with the business to understand our key problems and pain points, and devising solutions to meet them
- Creating component and object level design, as well as the production, troubleshooting, and documentation of high-quality code
- Contributing to the technology community through various activities e.g. mentoring, interviewing, recruiting, technical seminars, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong computer science fundamentals with a mastery of backend platform-level and infrastructure development
- 10+ years professional software development experience in technically rigorous environments holding extremely high bars
- Experience architecting and developing distributed systems
- Experience with complex backend systems and a fluency with contemporary programming languages, patterns, and architectures
- Expert level experience with Java and k8s. We are not a language-specific shop; however, the majority of backend technologies are built in Scala and Java.
- Deep experience with a Cloud platform a requirement. Bridgewater runs both AWS and Azure.
