We are seeking a dedicated and self-motivated Skype for Business Engineer to manage and optimize our global Skype for Business (SfB) environments, specifically versions 2015 and 2019. This critical role involves the management, maintenance, and migration of both Skype for Business Standard Edition (SfB SE) and Persistent Chat rooms, ensuring a seamless and non-disruptive transition to a unified solution for global users. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire Skype for Business environment until migration is complete, at which point legacy services can be decommissioned.

This position requires technical expertise in Skype for Business, a strong focus on operational efficiency, and a commitment to providing optimal service across our global communication networks.

Key Responsibilities:

Skype for Business Environment Management:

  • Oversee and maintain both Skype for Business 2015 and 2019 environments, ensuring they are fully operational and performing optimally.
  • Provide 24/7 operational support for both internal and federated users globally, troubleshooting and resolving issues promptly.
  • Perform routine monitoring, updates, and patching of the Skype for Business infrastructure to ensure reliability and security.

Migration Planning & Execution:

  • Develop and execute a migration plan for moving all users and services from legacy Skype for Business environments to SfB SE.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement the migration of all persistent chat rooms to the new environment with minimal impact to end users.
  • Ensure migration activities are performed seamlessly with minimal downtime or disruption to the global enterprise service.

Optimization & Performance Tuning:

  • Continuously monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues, ensuring high availability, reliability, and quality of service.
  • Identify and implement optimizations to enhance the scalability, efficiency, and performance of Skype for Business environments.

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, IT support, and other departments, to ensure smooth operations and issue resolution.
  • Provide technical expertise and support during migration phases, ensuring alignment with business and communication needs.

Legacy Services Decommissioning:

  • Oversee the removal of legacy Skype for Business services once all users and persistent chat rooms have been migrated successfully to the new platform.
  • Document all migration steps, configurations, and decommissioning procedures to ensure clear audit trails and compliance.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain up-to-date system documentation, including architectural diagrams, migration plans, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide regular reports on system health, performance, and migration progress to senior leadership and stakeholders.
