What You'll Do:
WGU’s Site Security team plays a critical role in creating and maintaining physical workplaces that support our university’s mission, protect our employees, and guard our physical and intellectual assets. The Site Security Coordinator is responsible for implementing and maintaining a rigorous security program to protect personnel, visitors, property, and assets at the site. This role combines operational security oversight, emergency response, access control administration, and proactive threat management. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with access control systems and CCTV, strong incident response skills, and a proven ability to train staff and coordinate cross-functional security efforts. In addition to security duties, the role acts as a receptionist with a security-minded approach, handling front-desk responsibilities in a way that preserves safety, privacy, and efficiency while providing a positive and meaningful first impression to guests, contractors, dignitaries, and students.
Main Responsibilities Include:
Security Program Oversight
Maintain service levels and standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
Stay current on industry practices and security hardware/software; apply updates as appropriate.
Communicate security status, updates, and risks using approved channels and dashboards.
Security with a Customer Support Mindset
Greet visitors, vendors, and guests in a professional and secure manner; verify identity and visit purpose per WGU policy.
Screen and log inquiries, provide direction, and issue visitor badges consistent with security policies.
Answer general inquiries while ensuring privacy and information is protected in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
Perform routine front-desk tasks during shift transitions or peak times, ensuring minimal disruption to security operations.
Access Control Management
Design and implement site-wide access protocols for campus building(s).
Issue and manage employee access badges; coordinate temporary and replacement badge issuance in accordance with WGU security policies.
Create access card entry reports for investigations and projects; maintain department- and individual-level access data.
Administer visitor management processes and collaborate with departments on access needs.
Physical Security and Monitoring
Administer, monitor, and optimize CCTV/VMS for critical areas, entrances, and sensitive zones.
Conduct periodic site assessments to identify safety and security risks and suggest remedial measures.
Lead and coordinate incident response for security incidents, workplace safety events, medical incidents, and emergencies; activate emergency procedure as appropriate; liaise with local authorities.
Incident Response, Investigation, and Playbooks
Conduct timely post-incident investigations; produce formal incident reports in accordance with policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain incident response playbooks, SOPs, and related documentation.
