Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 at the Mississippi River State Fish Wildlife Area for The Office of Land Management. This position will operate trucks and trailer with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds, maintain water control structures and pumping equipment for soil managment, perform carpentry duties, inspect and track maintenance on vehicles and equipment, serve as a working supervisor providing guidance and training to staff.  Hunters, fishermen, boaters and birdwatchers can enjoy the beauty of the Mississippi River State Fish and Wildlife Area. The area includes 15 wildlife management areas and 13 public access areas spanning more than 24,000 acres scattered along 75 miles of two major rivers. Essential Functions

  • Under general supervision, supervises and participates in site maintenance activities such as groundskeeping, building repairs, and minor construction at Mississippi River Area.
  • Performs public relations duties.
  • Supervises and participates in the maintenance and upkeep to machinery and vehicles.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Participates in site financial planning and tracking and provides input on budgetary recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with courses in parks and recreation, natural resource administration or public administration and one year's related functional supervisory experience.
  • Requires valid and current Class A Commercial Driver’s license with air brake designation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of the duties and responsibilities.
