Prime Functions: 

The Simulation Operations (SIM Ops) Specialist I for the College of Nursing will be responsible for supporting the daily operation and set up of simulation technologies and environments used in undergraduate, graduate, and interprofessional learning. 

This role focuses on preparing skills labs, high-fidelity simulation events, and related technologies to ensure effective experiential learning experiences. The SIM Ops Specialist I will provide hands-on support for simulation activities, including setting up equipment, operating simulation systems during sessions, and maintaining a functional learning environment. Collaboration with the simulation program leadership, faculty, simulation educators, and operations staff is essential to deliver high-quality learning events. 

This position will provide support across the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota campuses, as well as at CAMLS for the CRNA program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Simulation Event Setup and Support:

  • Assist in the setup, execution, and breakdown of simulation activities by preparing rooms, equipment, supplies, and manikin moulage in accordance with scenario design and faculty requirements. 
  • Operate high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, audiovisual (AV) systems, and other simulation-related technologies during sessions.
  • Provide both in-person and remote technical support during simulation events to ensure smooth operation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, simulation educators, SIM Ops Specialist IIs, and the Assistant Director of Simulation Operations to create realistic and psychologically safe environments for learners.
  • Manage AV setups for standardized patient (SP) encounters, including recording and data capture processes.

Simulation Technology Maintenance:

  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, AV systems, and other simulation equipment with guidance from SIM Ops Specialist IIs, whose primary responsibilities are towards simulation technologies.
  • Assist with tracking equipment readiness through documentation and inventory procedures.
  • Coordinate with SIM Ops Specialist IIs for repairs or technical support as needed.

Inventory and Resource Management:

  • Assist SIM Ops Specialist II (Materials Manager) with maintaining an organized inventory of simulation supplies, consumables, replacement parts, and resources.
  • Assist in the procurement of new equipment or consumables to support ongoing operations.
  • Support faculty and simulation educators in the use of simulation equipment during sessions.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Participate in team meetings to discuss workflow improvements or event planning.
  • Provide basic training to adjuncts or staff on operating standard simulation technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the discipline of work, and one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved, to total 5 years. Related disciplines include:

Some positions may require Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification or obtain CHSOS certification within one year of employment.
