   Work Hours: 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Workdays: Monday – Friday Location: 5315 Summit Parkway, San Antonio TX. 78228

Summary:

This role will be responsible for recruiting participants and leading sewing classes for those enrolled into the Sewing for Success, a Workforce Development initiative with Catholic Charities. The Sewing Associate will inspire creativity, develop confidence, and create economic opportunity for students through fashion and design. Position Responsibilities:

  • *Assist in planning and leading sewing classes for enrolled participants.
  • *Teach students how to read and follow sewing patterns, operate sewing equipment, and assemble garments from start to finish.
  • *Provide transportation for clients to attend sewing classes.
  • *Provide hands-on guidance and encouragement to students of varying skill levels.
  • *Help students design garments with market appeal for participation in an annual fashion show and sales initiative.
  • Capture student attendance, enter basic data with client information and services rendered.
  • Contact clients on a regular basis to remind students about classes and commitment to the program. 
  • Maintain classroom equipment, supply, and ensure a safe, clean learning environment.
  • Collaborate with program staff to support class schedules and student progress.
  • Offer feedback to improve individual skill development and group outcomes.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Adhere to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.   
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and  information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and  financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Senior Director or Vice President of Programs.

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education
    • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience
    • Experience in a teaching, vocational, or nonprofit  setting is a plus.
    • Experience in teaching or mentoring others in a  classroom or workshop setting. 
  • License and Credentials
    • Reliable transportation
    • Valid driver license
    • Valid vehicle insurance
    • Clean Driving Record

Minimum Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Proficiency in sewing machinery and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret sewing patterns accurately.
  • Strong understanding in garment construction & assembly.
  • Excellent communication skills and a patient, encouraging teaching style.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good written and verbal skills;
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
