About the role

WECU is seeking a Service Consultant (Teller) to join our Holly branch located in Bellingham, WA. This individual will strive to make a meaningful difference in member’s lives as defined by WECU’s mission and vision. This position is responsible for processing a wide variety of member transactions, while consistently referring members for other financial services.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Service Expectations

  • Contributes to the organization's mission statement and goals by providing the highest quality of service, treating each person professionally, with warmth, courtesy, and respect.

  • Makes a personal effort to make members feel they belong and are important to the credit union.
  • Successfully incorporates concepts of Deliver Value, Create Loyalty in daily behaviors and interactions with both internal and external members.
  • Effectively interviews members to identify needs; proactively explains and refers available financial products and services to strengthen the member relationship.
  • Performs such other member service functions as needed and assists others to complete tasks and work assignments. 

Service Activities

  • Processes a wide variety of transactions including:
  • Deposits to savings and checking accounts
    1. Disburses cash or check withdrawals
    2. Transfers funds between accounts
    3. Issues money orders, cashier’s checks, and Visa cash advances 
    4. Purchases/exchanges foreign currency and drafts
    5. Processes loan payments
    6. Processes wire transactions
    7. Safe Deposit Box entry
    8. Processes mail and night drop deposits 
    9. Maintains accounts through address changes, ordering checks, and issuing debit cards
  • Refers WECU financial products and services to ensure member satisfaction. 
  • Assists in sales and service efforts for Retail, Home Loan Center, and Business Banking. 
  • Studies manuals and marketing materials to maintain knowledge of credit union products, services, and processes; offers suggestions to improve efficiencies. Ability to quote rates including annual percentage yield.
  • May occasionally be required to work at other branches or in other departments.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 Security and Regulatory Duties

  • Understands and complies with branch security procedures at all times.
  • Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.  
  • Follows policy and procedures related to SARs by monitoring and reporting suspicious activity to the Compliance department.  
  • Completes mandatory BSA/AML annual training via online web course.

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Related experience and/or training in a similar role at a financial institution preferred, 1 year customer facing experience in a retail environment may be accepted instead.
  • Customer service with cash handling experience preferred. Relevant training in a credit union, bank, or other financial institution.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.   
  • Must effectively present information in one-on-one situations to members, potential members and other employees of the credit union.
