Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer on the Command and Launch Infrastructure Integration Team. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This position will be located on campus in Roy, UT and may require on-site support at product manufacturing and integration sites. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You'll Get To Do:

The qualified candidate will work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages (PDP). 

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
• Create and implement deployable mechanical mechanisms that are verified through test/analysis

  • Develop CAD models visualizing various design solutions

  • Implement program processes and engineering board approval processes for developed PDPs

  • Deliver required PDPs on time to meet program objectives

  • Integrate Infrastructure Integration PDPs with the various element teams to proactively eliminate disconnects and design clashes

  • Identify gaps within a design and/or requirements and provide a resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others 

  • Ensure the developed PDPs meet the design requirements from the various element/configured item specifications

  • Support digital transformation initiatives relating to PDP development and release

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.


You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

Mechanical Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with 2 years of experience or Master's degree with 0 years of experience


Principal Mechanical Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with 5 years of experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 1 year of experience

Required for Both Level(s):

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

  • Experience with design/fabrication techniques for structural details, assemblies, and/or installations

  • Experience with 3-D modeling tools

  • Experience using product lifecycle management (PLM) tools

  • Willing and able to travel up to 25% as business needs determine


These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • An active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

  • ICBM Experience

  • Experience in creating a Product Def
