Senior Technical Writer

ECS is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to work remotely.  

Support the Threat Enterprise Security Services (TESS) Program. The program supports the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA’s) mission by offering standardized, scalable, and cost-effective cybersecurity solutions to protect critical infrastructure and government networks. ECS is looking for a Technical Writer to aid in the creation of documentation deliverables.

This position will be responsible for ensuring quality and delivery of TESS technical, functional, and cybersecurity documentation. The ideal candidate must be able to work dynamically, proactively, and both independently and as part of a team to achieve program objectives. As a core member of the TESS Program, you will collaborate with our customer and stakeholders to:

• Lead iterative content development for a variety of initiatives, to include writing for newsletters, slick sheets, SOPs, project plans, and executive briefs
• Lead content Quality Assurance (QA) efforts for all written content, to include copyediting, proofreading, quality assurance SOPs, and other protocols
• Collect, analyze, compose, and translate technical information into clear, readable documentation to be used by both technical and non-technical personnel
• Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval ensuring final documents meet applicable requirements
• Obtain data from technical personnel by directly interacting with them and assisting in the creation of technical documentation
• Consult relevant sources, including technical documentation, subject matter experts, and project personnel to obtain information
• Proactively review, update, and maintain cybersecurity policy, guidance documents, directives, templates, and materials to ensure all documentation reflects and incorporates the most recent version of all cybersecurity program documentation
• Recommend, review, and update existing and/or develop new cybersecurity policies, handbooks, standards, and procedures
• Ensure documentation is current and relevant for processes and programs
• Collaborate with clients and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather accurate information and insights necessary for the creation of documents
• Engage in clear and structured communication to ensure that all relevant details, expectations, and content requirements are thoroughly understood and incorporated

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Creative Writing, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
• 5+ years’ experience in writing and editing technical documentation for technical systems in accordance with established writing standards
• Ability to successfully maintain a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Entry on Duty (EOD)/DHS Suitability, with the potential to obtain a clearance up to TS/SCI
• Online portfolio (or available work samples) that showcases the candidate’s writing skills and experience
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, organization skills, problem solving ability, attention to detail, and work ethic that is proactive and self-motivated
• Strong ability to comprehend technical concepts and clearly articulate them in written form
• Significant experience creating engaging content for consumption across multiple platforms using plain language and adhering to accessibility standards
• Experience supporting development of documentation with input from SMEs for design documents and other technical documentation
• Proven ability to adjust writing styles and voices to meet the needs and preferences of multiple audiences
• Extensive knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must be able to work independently
