Senior Systems Engineer
IntelsatAbout the role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to support an industry-leading Engineering team by applying your skills in managing complex Linux-based applications, conducting service-affecting performance analytics, and developing and executing both automated and manual test cases. You will be responsible for taking system specifications from paper to a fully functional system, ensuring it operates as designed, and providing ongoing support throughout its entire life cycle.
What you will do?
Your responsibilities will encompass a range of critical tasks, including configuring Linux-Based applications, collecting, and analyzing data, and setting up and executing performance scenarios and test cases. You will play a key role in creating and finalizing procedures for the installation, configuration, and validation of system servers. Troubleshooting support for architecture, infrastructure, and network engineering teams will also be part of your duties, focusing on the servers under your supervision.
Your expertise in managing and configuring AAA systems (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting), DPI systems (Deep Packet Inspection), and databases will be essential. You will be involved in designing and implementing new architecture systems to enhance user services, beginning with system infrastructure design and architecture, Proof of Concept, and progressing through installation, network integration, and ensuring production readiness.
Throughout these phases, you will conduct detailed Proof of Concept for new systems, emphasizing functionality, reliability, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. Additionally, you will oversee the seamless integration of new system components, encompassing both hardware and software.
Your role will also involve researching and resolving issues without established solutions, maintaining comprehensive local documentation, and updating it regularly.
You will also primarily focus on executing pre-production and production deployments with optimal configurations aligned seamlessly with the service's objectives. During the pre-production phase, you will conduct meticulous testing and validation to identify potential issues and ensure robust and efficient configurations. This serves as a crucial checkpoint before transitioning to the production environment. Upon moving to production deployment, emphasize applying the validated configurations, including a thorough post-event report check, to ensure proper deployment aligned with predetermined specifications.
Your required experience/skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technologies.
- Experience in Systems Engineering in the Networking Industry, with 7 to 10 years of experience required.
- Solid software development experience in the Python programming language, with the ability to understand, execute, and debug issues, as well as develop new tools using Python.
- Expertise in Linux deployment, scripting and configuration, Multithreading, and Socket programming
- Expertise in TCP/IP communications stacks and optimizations
- Experience with ELK, Grafana data streaming, and software visualization
- Experience in analyzing and debugging code defects in the Production Environment.
- Proficiency in version control systems such as Git.
- Ability to design comprehensive test scenarios for systems usability, execute tests, and prepare detailed reports on effectiveness and defects for production teams.
- Full-cycle Systems Engineering experience covering Requirements capture, architecture, design, development, and system testing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in installing, configuring, debugging, and interpreting performance analytics to monitor, aggregate, and visualize key performance indicators over time.
- Proven track record of directly interfacing with customers to address concerns and resolve issues effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of driving resolutions autonomously without senior engineer support.
- Proficient in managing and configuring AAA systems (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting).
- Experience in configuring MySQL and PostgreSQL, including setup of replication, troubleshooting, and performance improvement.
- Proficiency in networking concepts such as network architecture, protocols (TCP/IP, UDP), routin
