Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Sterile Processing (SPD) Tech provides mentorship and training for Sterile Processing Technician I & II. Assists the Supervisor in oversight and competency of the Cameron Park Surgery Center (CPSC) SPD staff and Marshall SPD staff daily. Assists in adequate precepting, continuous training, competency, and education. Assists Supervisor, Sterile Processing by supporting compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards for Marshall and CPSC. Maintains familiarity with the Perioperative Department inventory of supplies and equipment necessary to maintain sterile processing department at Marshall and CPSC. Ensures the safe handling of infectious material to protect all patients and employees. Operates and troubleshoots sterilization equipment.  Supports diverse surgical service lines and instruments, including but not limited to robotic, ortho, urology, OB, and podiatry. Maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner anticipating the needs of all Surgical Services customers.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

• Completion of a Sterile Processing course/program required.
• Three years of recent sterile processing experience required.
• Current Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Tech Certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD) required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of SPD standards including sterilization, decontamination, infection control standards and procedures) and knowledge of SPD equipment, supplies and surgical instrumentation required.

Skills:

• Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish duties of a Lead SPD Tech and has familiarity with computers and programs.
• Ability and a willingness to function in a staff capacity as needed.
