The Senior Staff Systems Engineer for Autonomous Driving Verification at Cruise should be an experienced leader with a passion for autonomous machines. The role focuses on the test and validation of autonomous driving behaviors. The ideal candidate will have a strong experience developing complex software defined systems, and a deep knowledge of validation and test strategies to help direct the development of world class test and validation frameworks for the autonomy software stack.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable switching focus from defining technical strategies that articulate solutions and roadmaps, building prototypes, performing analyses and simulations, developing high quality metrics, and mentoring staff and senior systems and test engineers.

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Lead the strategy for the development of test and validation frameworks that enable the efficient validation of the autonomy software stack across the full operating envelope and covering the entire ecosystem inclusive of onboard autonomy stack and off-vehicle systems and services

  • Specify detailed technical approaches for scenario selection, test coverage, test metrics, monitoring to provide useful feedback to developers

  • Provide significant technical contribution through coding, scripting, analyses, development of prototypes, proof of concept initiatives, and documentation

  • Improve engineering productivity through testing strategy and execution, automation and enabling processes, and collaboration and coordination with Systems, Simulation, Data Science and Infrastructure teams

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentorship to our senior+ systems and test engineers as they propose, prototype, evaluate, and iterate solutions, as well as through their career progression

  • Maintain very high-quality bar in projects from the start and champion quality improvements by implementing better technical practices

  • Recruit, set and maintain a high technical bar for hiring top talent

What you must have: 

  • 10+ years of experience in the field of safety or mission critical software validation, test frameworks development for large systems and/or system performance analysis and test automation

  • Experience in modern software development environment with fast paced release cycles

  • Experience in driving technical strategy and vision for engineering teams and organizations

  • Implemented cross-functional solutions (as a tech lead) across orgs through the software development lifecycle

  • Experience with complex software architectures, deep learning frameworks, and software stacks

  • Able to advise leadership at the director+ level on technical strategy and tech teams talent needs.

  • Experience with multiple test tooling solutions and data and analysis frameworks as part of a data-driven approach to testing

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, lead large cross-functional initiatives and deliver results

  • MS or PhD in CS/CE/EE, or equivalent, in industry experience

Bonus points! 

  • Experience developing large scale automated test frameworks based on modeling and simulation of modern software architectures.

  • Experience working with safety critical software developments

  • Expertise in evaluating large scale test sets with focus regression identification

  • Experience working with validation strategies to reduce real-world software deployment time for automotive or parallel industry
