Position Purpose:

Reporting to the Associate Professor and Director, Language Assessment, the incumbent is responsible for all aspects of the development and validation of French and English second language testing and supports the management and administration of these tests at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, maintaining the University’s bilingual mission. 

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conceptualizes and implements quality language tests for existing and new purposes develops test content, supervises content creation by others, creates test specifications, oversees test piloting and other validation activities such as statistical analyses, and monitors all testing content to ensure test quality, security, and equivalence.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in the administration of language testing programs.  Formulates and implements policies and procedures to ensure the quality, reputation, and visibility of OLBI’s tests.
  • Determines budgetary priorities in collaboration with Director, Language Assessment. Prepares provisional budgets in collaboration with Lead Coordinator, Student and Campus Support. Oversees budget management for Language Testing Services.
  • With the support of Intermediate Coordinator, Academic Program Management, recruits, trains, and monitors professional assessment staff: interviewers, test evaluators, and test development specialists.

What you will bring:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field, second language assessment, educational measurement, applied linguistics (language testing), or closely related field (e.g., psychometrics) or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • PHD in a is a strong asset
  • 3-5 years of experience in test development and delivery, as well as analysis and interpretation of language tests
  • Previous experience in areas related to language assessment or working with language learners is an asset.
  • Experience in administrative or project management
  • Experience in supervising unionized employees is an asset
  • Knowledge of item analysis and data analysis programs (e.g., R; SPSS; NVivo)
  • Knowledge of research design
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent report-writing skills
  • Bilingualism: Very high proficiency in both English and French is a must.
