Senior Software Engineer

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to support the Ocean Ecology Laboratory at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This position will support scientific software, tools and services development for data distribution and management of current and future Earth science data sets supported by the OB.DAAC. The Software Engineer will support projects involving back-end and front-end development; projects involving databases; and development and maintenance of command line, web, and cloud-based tools and services in an environment susceptible to the need for rapid change.

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physical Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
• Strong Python skills 
• Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, and improving database-driven tools and services on the front- and back-end 
• Experience developing in a Unix/Linux environment. 
• Experience effectively maintaining a version-controlled code repository using modern tools (e.g., Git) 
• Comfortable working independently as part of a team toward a common goal
• US Citizenship required

Desired Qualifications:

• AWS experience or AWS certificate 
• Experience working in an Agile environment. 
• Database experience – RDBMS and/or SAP ASE experience 
• Knowledge of Earth science related data formats 
• Experience with web development
