Cruise's Developer Productivity organization is dedicated to delivering and maintaining the tools and services that our engineers rely on daily to excel in their work and drive our vehicles forward. The tools and services we create enhance the entire development lifecycle at Cruise— from code checkout, modification, compilation, and testing, to merging and deployment. We are seeking a Senior Engineer to elevate developer productivity at Cruise by creating and improving tools and services that streamline and automate engineering workflows. This role requires someone who is deeply invested in the technical growth of fellow engineers and skilled in balancing the priorities of the business, our users, and the development team. The impact of this role will vary based on the situation, but the Senior Engineer will be expected to deliver comprehensive solutions, from ideation to production, while maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.

 

What you’ll be doing:

• Propose, design and implement solutions that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable

• Ship improvements to our AV development toolchains and services which have a measurable and direct impact on engineering productivity and our core company metrics

• Drive software engineering best practices within your team

• Contribute to the engineering culture on the team

• Provide input to help the team find the right balance between delivering impact and addressing technical debt

What you must have:

• 4+ years experience designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.

• Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services.

• Experience writing Go, Python, or other language at production scale

• Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals

• Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes and systems around you

• Ability to research, document, communicate, and defend proposals

• Ability to take both technical and professional feedback

• Ability to effectively make trade-offs and communicate the reasoning

• Ability to manage competing priorities, focus on shipping, and work effectively under pressure

• Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world
