The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Transfusion Medicine Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
As the Senior Scientist Operations, you’ll have the chance to independently manage complex; long-duration projects; and product improvements as a member of an on-market support team. You’ll proactively identify opportunities for significant operational, process, or product improvements as well as support key division projects. You’ll routinely interact with diverse functional areas to support product manufacturing. May act as a lead scientist, project leader, or project contributor.
What You’ll Work On
Experimental Design: Design, analyze, and direct experiments to solve problems and improve processes.
Data Analysis: Perform descriptive and exploratory analyses on complex datasets to interpret product performance trends.
Collaboration: Work with various teams (both scientific and non-scientific) to assess risks, troubleshoot, and implement solutions.
Project Management: Manage long-term projects and product improvements, define milestones, and ensure timely completion.
Product Development: Support product development and design transfer initiatives.
Communication: Present technical information clearly to a broad audience, summarize methods and results, and answer stakeholder questions.
Multitasking: Balance multiple project priorities and deadlines.
Critical Review: Review internal records and reports to ensure adequate support for conclusions.
Knowledge Sharing: Share expertise, mentor junior staff, and maintain product design history.
Documentation: Independently design experiments and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
Data Summarization: Summarize data, analyze results, and determine future experiments based on study outcomes.
Fiscal Responsibility: Make actionable recommendations and align activities with strategic business priorities.
Compliance: Participate in lab safety, ISO 9000, GMP, or GRP implementation and support both internal and external audits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics; with 6 + years of progressively responsible positions in a research development
