About the role
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Senior Production Designer to join our newly formed, fast paced and agile publishing team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the production process, ensuring that book cover designs and layouts are flawlessly executed and ready for manufacturing. This role demands a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external art directors, designers, authors, and editors.
**This role is hybrid in Naperville, IL with a minimum of 2 office days weekly.

Senior Production Designer Key Responsibilities:
- Collaboration with Art Directors & Designers: Work closely with art directors and designers to refine and finalize book cover designs, ensuring that they meet both creative and technical standards.
- File Review & Layout Confirmation: Review design files to confirm they are accurate and align with established templates. Ensure that layouts are consistent across an author’s titles and within series.
- Author Communication & Approvals:Partner with authors to secure final approvals on cover designs and layouts, ensuring their vision is fully realized in the final product.
- Manufacturing-Ready File Preparation: Translate creative cover treatments into manufacturing-ready file layouts, ensuring that designs can be effectively reproduced in print.
- Consistency Across Titles & Series: Ensure that design elements and layouts are consistent across multiple titles and series, maintaining brand integrity and visual cohesion.
- Attention to Detail & File Accuracy: Maintain a rigorous focus on detail and file accuracy, ensuring that all production files meet the highest standards before they are sent to manufacturing.
- Deadline Management: Adhere to established production schedules, ensuring all projects are completed on time while maintaining quality standards.
- Directly Supervises Freelance resources as required
- Cross-Department Communication:Work collaboratively with authors, editors, and other production team members to resolve any issues and ensure a smooth production process.
- A willingness to commit to overtime as needed to meet demanding schedules.

- Experience: 5+ years of experience in book production design, with a strong background in working on book covers and interior layouts. Appropriately related experience will also be considered.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and a strong understanding of print production processes.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail and file accuracy, with a proven ability to maintain high standards under tight deadlines.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with authors, editors, and other stakeholders.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all deadlines are met without compromising quality.
- Creative Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve design issues, ensuring that creative concepts are faithfully translated into final products.
