The Team
The Legal and Compliance team is a small, high-functioning, and collaborative team. We protect the company from risk while also providing practical guidance to our business partners, helping to foster innovation and growth. Each member of the team is empowered to bring forth new ideas, make changes to or implement new processes, and act as a key advisor on business and team strategy.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Paralegal, you will be our first Paralegal and report directly to the company’s VP and General Counsel. Your focus will be to assist with case management, preparing legal correspondence, pleadings and discovery responses, maintaining schedules and deadlines, and other projects as assigned.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other executives, department managers, and employees in the different departments. The work will also include interactions with partners, outside counsel, and state regulators.
This work includes assisting in-house counsel with litigation and pre-litigation matters, documentation, and processes. Build a system and track and ensure that all regulatory deadlines are met. Draft and proofread legal correspondence, and build templates for responses. Facilitate prompt, efficient, and professional communication with employees, service providers, and business partners.
This opportunity requires
- 8+ years of experience as a Paralegal in a law firm or legal department of a company; emphasis on consumer financial services is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree
- Working knowledge of consumer lending and credit reporting laws is a plus
- Excellent people skills and experience collaborating with senior executives
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated initiative to be a self-starter
- Capacity to think strategically to identify issues and develop long-term solutions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adjust priorities in response to unanticipated events
- Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong customer-focus orientation
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues with maturity and professionalism and maintain strict confidence
- Manage tasks efficiently and effectively
- Other projects as assigned
- Prepare and timely dispatch mailings and emails
