Senior MMIC Modeling and Test Engineer
The Aerospace CorporationAbout the role
The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space— delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.
At the Mission Payloads Division (MPD), we are pioneers in remote sensing systems that guide our country’s space enterprise. Our talented and dynamic people create and flourish in electronics, sensors, radar, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced data network domains. We boldly advance technology through our research and development and then forward to demonstration and integration. With innovative laboratories and prototyping, MPD delivers groundbreaking results. We guide our Department of Defense, intelligence community, and civil clients to enhance national productivity and security and tackle the most critical missions. Bring your intelligence and creative spirit and join us at MPD!
We are seeking a RF/Microwave & Test engineer to support the Communication Electronics Department with insertion of GaN and RF integrated circuits into the nation’s sensor and communications space systems. You will setup and perform measurements on RF, microwave, and mm-wave integrated circuits (MMICs/RFICs) and modules, extract nonlinear and noise models for devices, and perform circuit analysis and design, all in a dynamic research and development environment. This role will also have opportunities to grow and develop new skills and areas of expertise, including but not limited to: passive microwave component design, communications systems, MMIC design, hybrid MIC design, phased array systems, rapid prototyping, RF PCB design, and analog circuit design.
Work Model:This role will require on-site support in El Segundo, but have the flexibility to support in a hybrid work model (20%)
What You’ll Be Doing
Deeply understand and operate the latest advanced microwave equipment such as wafer probe stations, load pull tuners, signal analyzers, and network analyzers to measure on-wafer and fixtured measurements such as S-parameters, large signal power and efficiency, linearity, load pull, noise parameters/figure, EVM, and pulsed IV
Extract nonlinear and noise models for III-V semiconductor devices
Lead the creation of DC and RF fixtures for high power and high temperature tests
Mentor and train more junior engineers on device modeling and measurement
Develop test plans and ensure lab readiness
Solve microwave hardware anomalies using analytical methods and experimental setups
Collaborate onsite with other engineer and technicians
