As a Capital One Sr. Manager Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One. 

The Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) Technology division is responsible for enabling and evolving Capital One’s foundational cloud infrastructure layer, including observability, connectivity, resilience and availability.

The cloud can be a dangerous place for the uninitiated - it's our org's mission to make it less so. Our teams are responsible for implementing the cloud controls that secure our company and ensure the developers responsible for their cloud resources are notified of non-compliance (and are supplied with means of addressing it). This role is to manage a long-established team in charge of the Cloud Custodian Platform, responsible for identification of non-compliant cloud resources in all AWS accounts in the company, and any subsequent actions that might result from such identifications.

We are looking to hire hands-on people leaders who are passionate learners, have a strong track record of growing/mentoring engineering teams, and are motivated to take on new challenges. As a manager, you will be a technical, detail-oriented leader who can build and grow an engineering organization using strong judgment and programming skills. You will have a solid understanding of the products and systems your team owns, their limitations, and the reasons behind architecture decisions.

What You’ll Do: 

• Lead a technology project and its team of developers to create solutions that help meet Cloud Security and Compliance needs for the company

• Support the operations of and enhancements to an intricate system running at massive scale

• Collaborate with product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions to new problems that may arise

• Be familiar with and help the team utilize programming languages like TypeScript, Python, and React, NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker, Serverless, and a variety of AWS tools and services

• Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and prototyping/implementing the technical solutions, and from time to time, be asked to code or evaluate code

Basic Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree

• At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)

• At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

• At least 4 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Master’s Degree

• 8+ years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go

• 5+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service

• 2+ years of experience in open source frameworks

• 4+ years of people management experience

• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
