The Position
Arevon is recruiting for the position of Senior Manager, HV Engineering, an outstanding opportunity for individuals seeking an exciting, high-growth work environment in one of the most important industries for the 21st century.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Manager, HV Engineering will be responsible for providing high voltage (HV) technical oversight for PV and BESS projects during development and construction. The responsibilities include supporting the full HV project lifecycle including: development of scope of work documents, drafting & reviewing commissioning requirements, responding to technical RFI, and communicating with counterparties and internal stakeholders. The role requires detailed analysis and interpretation of HV related civil, structural, and electrical Prudent Industry Practices, codes, and standards. The role will be part of the Engineering team and will report directly to the Director, Project Engineering. The responsibilities of a Senior Manager, HV Engineering include, but are not limited to:
- Lead engineer driving HV designs from development to Final Completion for utility scale PV and/or BESS projects.
- HV SME charged with developing HV engineering, procurement, and construction RFPs and scopes of work, as well as managing 3rd party contractor (EOR and EPC) negotiations, including scope, cost, and schedule.
- Providing HV subject matter expertise for substation, utility switchyard, SCADA, and generation tie-line (gen-tie) design packages, including responsibility for the review of all HV equipment specifications, data sheets, drawings, studies, and calculations.
- Review and manage civil, structural, and electrical technical deliverables.
- Review and respond to HV technical RFI responses throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage the EOR and EPC during the design phase and throughout the course of project execution of large-scale PV and BESS projects as it pertains to HV.
- Perform due diligence on project documentation and communicate fatal flaws to management. This will include the review of PPAs, Interconnection Agreements, existing conceptual and detailed design, drawings, specifications, data sheets, test reports, and siting of gen-tie lines for conformance to the project needs.
- Participate in constructability reviews and analyze options to optimize cost and schedule.
- Review of HV electrical design calculations for electrical loads, short circuit, dynamic stability, power factor, harmonics, coordination studies, and other studies as required.
- Support the estimation team to accurately populate HV engineering budget estimates based on available project technical due diligence.
- Ensure HV design and installation meet applicable codes and standards, such as NESC, NFPA, ASME, NEC, ANSI, IEEE.
- Able and willing to travel to both active construction sites and sites in development.
- Support project finance, estimating, and performance engineering to minimize risk and identify fatal flaws.
- In-house HV commissioning lead for substation, gen-tie, and switchyard as applicable, which will typically involve reviewing commissioning and testing plans, as well as analyzing the results of such tests.
- Acts as liaison with Arevon Project Management and senior management on matters relating to engineering progress, quality, scope and technical/permitting issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, required.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience as an HV engineer working with solar, BESS, or another related industry required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of engineering and renewable energy systems; solar PV & BESS systems including SCADA and monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of site power & design calculations, plan preparation; site collector system calculations & report writin
