Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Chief Systems Architect to define and architect solutions for the Development of a new satellite ground system for Space Weather Ground Mission Operations Services (SWGMS) on-premises and cloud systems to meet both current and future demands.
The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDIS is responsible for advancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAA’s Space Weather Next (SWX) program maintains and extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to most efficiently provide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.
The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) is responsible for comprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation of observing assets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.
The Space Weather Observations - Mission Operations Services (SWO-MOS) program must provide a full mission satellite command and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary technical authority for the program defining a robust, highly available architecture that meets SWGMS mission requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the full life-cycle development of current and future infrastructure, product generation, and ground command and control components.
- Key member of the requirements development process to ensure solutions meet all functional and performance requirements.
- Ensures project/department milestones are met and adhere to approved budgets.
- Consult with management, customers, and external contractors regarding resources, plans, designs, and implementations.
- Defines solution architecture, cloud strategy, and cloud best practices.
- Identify/Define the HW/SW components for the architecture to include interfaces to Antenna and Products Services.
- Evaluates and defines future cloud architecture, cloud services, and cloud applications.
- Oversee technical design, development, and implementation of system services - Assist with Program Increment Planning.
- Identify technical risks, risk reduction mitigations, and opportunity identification.
- Provide oversight in standards, best practices, and technical specifications.
- Interact with customers regarding strategies, requirements, problem solving, and support.
- Communicate project status to various levels of management.
- Work with minimal supervision/guidance.
- Occasional CONUS travel.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and hold a Public Trust clearance – US Citizenship is required.
- Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
- 4 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 5 years of experience supporting NOAA/NESDIS architectures and system integrations
- Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment
- Proficient with Atlassian Tool Suite
- Experience with on-prem to cloud migrations
- Expertise in solution design and development, vendor interaction, and enterprise application support
- Proven experience in managing relationships with vendors/consultants, team members, and customers
- Established project management skills

- Familiar with NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF)
- Experience with Peraton OS/COMET
- Exceptional technical writing skills
- Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way
- Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study

- Experience with machine learning and AI
- Familiarity with data management tools
