Purpose of the role

To drive technical excellence and innovation by leading the design and implementation of robust software solutions, providing mentorship to engineering teams, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and contributing to strategic planning to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

• Provision of guidance and expertise to engineering teams to ensure alignment with best practices and foster a culture of technical excellence.
• Contribution to strategic planning by aligning technical decisions with business goals, anticipating future technology trends, and providing insights to optimize product roadmaps.
• Design and implementation of complex, scalable, and maintainable software solutions, considering long-term viability and business objectives.
• Mentoring and coaching to junior and mid-level engineers to foster professional growth and knowledge sharing, elevating the overall skillset and capabilities of the organization.
• Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
• Innovation within the organization by identifying and incorporating new technologies, methodologies, and industry practices into the engineering process.

Embark on a transformative journey as a Senior Java Developer – AVP.  At Barclays, our vision is clear –to redefine the future of banking and help craft innovative solutions As a Senior Java Developer you will be a member of the Global Settlement Connectivity team responsible for building and enhancing the next generation of Barclays trade processing platform. You will be responsible for design and development of trade processing application enhancements. You will also be responsible for interacting with the users to understand issues/feedback and incorporate the same in developing solutions. You will be required to provide third line support for the trade processing applications.

To be successful as a Senior Java Developer – AVP, you should:

• Core Java experience in a server-side multi-threaded application. Experience developing using the Spring framework, including experience with Spring Boot.
• Experience working Apache Camel, Messaging technologies like MQ, Solace or Kafka and Caching technologies like Apache Ignite or Coherence. Experience working with SQL and NoSQL based database technologies.
• Good understanding of microservices architecture, software design patterns and enterprise integration patterns. Solid understanding of Test Driven and Continuous integration way of software development process.
• Good understanding of cloud technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift. Knowledge of CI/CD tools like Gitlab or Jenkins.
• Experience managing / working with offshore development teams. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience

Other highly valued skills include:

• Knowledge of microservices orchestration frameworks like Camunda.
• Knowledge of Elastic stack.
