Under general supervision and guidance, the Senior IT Systems DBA is responsible for the maintenance and support of moderately complex Database systems software at multiple Mayo Clinic sites. Actively monitor and respond to technical database problems utilizing diagnostic testing tools and techniques as well as assist in managing overall database capacity. Interface with vendor support service groups or other external support teams to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance. Expected is required to produce and maintain documentation such as systems requirements, designs, resource inventories and plans as requested by the work unit leadership. Develops proposals that consider alternatives and business case gains needed for comprehensive institutional consideration. Works effectively across departmental organizations gaining consensus of stakeholders. Work is reviewed upon completion for quality, timeliness, and adequacy in meeting objectives. Ability to take responsibility and accountability for own activities. Possesses ability to multi-task and prioritize issues appropriately.
Must possess human relations skills to interact with a variety of personnel. Evidence of strong communication & organizational skills. Evidence of project management skills. Evidence of strong communication, meeting management and organizational skills. Performs consulting tasks, acts as an information resource and mentor in a supportive role.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of demonstrated professional IT Systems DBA experience or an Associate degree plus 5 years of demonstrated professional IT Systems DBA experience. A high school diploma and 7 years of demonstrated professional IT Systems DBA experience in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic may be considered in lieu of the degree. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field.
MCSE, CCNA, or other IT related certifications considered a plus. Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline preferred. Experience working in healthcare technology is preferred. Qualified candidates should have demonstrated experience in managing a relational DBMS such as MSSQL. DB2, Oracle, or Sybase Experience managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications. Knowledge of system design principles, software development methodologies, project management methodologies, and some computer programming and/or system support experience. Advanced knowledge of multiple operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes. A working knowledge of the following is preferred: Client/Server application architecture, Clustering, VB and scripting tools; MS SQL Server, Oracle, My SQL, DB2 or Sybase; Web Architecture including HTML, JavaScript, Active Server Pages (ASP), PHP; Network topologies and protocols e.g. IEEE 802.3, 802.11a/b/g, 802.1x, TCP/IP; SAN, NAS, virtualized storage environments. Experience in system hardware design, ordering, configuration, testing and implementation of large projects. Strong communication skills. Proficient verbal and written communication skills using English.
Additional Qualifications:
- Expertise in SQL, Excel, and other data management tools
- Strong project management skills along with the experience in developing and executing reporting initiatives
- Working knowledge of hospital/clinical practice / operations, data management, timeline / project management, computer / related systems are required.
- Must have demonstrated competencies in strategic and systems thinking, business acumen, decision making, leading people, change management, influence without authority and communication skills.
- Must have the ability to independently manage varied workload programs and assignments with multiple priorities in a continuously changing environment.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated effectiveness in management and group dynamics including conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are required.
