About the role

The Data Engineering – Data Management Services department is seeking highly motivated leaders to help lead and grow GEICO’s data governance, retention, and quality capabilities. The Data Retention team will work with data producers and consumers to build a platform that helps define and manage Geico’s Data retention capabilities and comply with associated policies. The Data Retention team will not only build the mechanisms to enforce data retention requirements but will also work to build a culture that encourages everyone to detect data issues and propose improvements.  You will be an integral part of the engineering and implementation of GEICO’s next generation of open source data management tools that promote engineering excellence and customer experience. 
 
The qualified candidate will focus on building the team, and  all aspects of design, analysis, and implementation of the new data retention platform. The candidate will work with a team of software, cloud and IT engineers to build a high performing open-source solution that seamlessly integrates with our various applications within our ecosystem. The ideal candidate will also define a strategy for adoption of the system and partner closely with the Enterprise Data Governance, Product, and Business teams to ensure that the platform supports the needs of our governance initiatives.

Responsibilities:
- Lead people, products, and process and be a thought leader to innovate how we transform into a data driven organization
- Demonstrate strategic thinking and strong planning skills to establish long term roadmap and business plan
- Strong relationship building to establish and foster great relationships with Tech teams and business partners
- Able to work independently while functioning as part of a cohesive cross-functional management team
- Coach, develop, and manage associates and supervisors, including establishing goals and evaluating performance
- Empower team by fostering a culture that allows critical thinking and open communication
- Work with stakeholders to establish and meet data quality requirements, SLAs and SLOs for data ingestion
- May be required to be on call for production support 24x7


Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience designing, building, optimizing and scaling solutions using distributed computing
- 4+ years of leadership experience leading, coaching, and developing teams and associates in software or data engineering or similar role
- 5+ years of experience in Agile frameworks and methodologies, CI/CD pipelines and build/release practices
- Experience in Data Engineering and modern warehousing technologies such as Snowflake
- Knowledge of Java, Python, .Net, SDLC, Data Ingestion/ streaming tooling such as Kafka, Spark or similar technologies
- Strong understanding of data Ingestion, data transformation, data management, data quality, and data retention concepts is desirable
- Ability to prioritize and drive results based on business value to the organization
- Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to both Senior Leadership, highly technical and non-technical audiences


 

Annual Salary

$120,000.00 - $261,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
