Senior Engineering Manager - Edge Storage Team
Fastly’s Storage team builds storage products like KV Store, Object Storage, Secret Store that empower Fastly's Compute and Delivery Platforms. We focus on enabling our customers to build powerful edge applications with lightning fast access to their data. All with a fantastic developer experience.
Your role will enable and nurture a team of extremely talented engineers. You will find yourself managing team dependencies, building roadmaps with your team and product partners. You will drive technical direction, review technical implementation alongside your engineering leaders. You enjoy thinking big while making intentional steps toward those big goals. You will be partnering with engineering and product teams from all walks of life and disciplines, all the while cultivating an inclusive and cohesive team environment that enables your engineers to deliver their best work.
What You'll Do:
- Manage and support a distributed systems engineering team.
- Ensure collaborative cross-functional roadmap planning across engineering and product.
- Create just enough process that enables cross-functional planning, communication and risk mitigation
- Participate in designing technical solutions with your team and other engineering teams.
- Apply your individual contributor experience. You will not be required to actively develop software, but you must have related technical experience to this problem space.
- Mentor, grow and provide regular feedback to engineers
- Work with your engineering management peer group to drive broader engineering goals
- Recruit and hire software engineers
- Clearly communicate upward and outward to set expectations for roadmaps and deliverables
What We're Looking For:
- You have at least 12 years of back-end or systems software engineering experience
- At least 4 years experience directly managing engineering teams
- Experience building large-scale distributed platforms and low level systems
We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:
- Building developer tooling, including ergonomic SDK design
- Building developer tooling that integrates cleanly into developer workflows
- Experience with network protocols and caching concepts
- Exposure to WebAssembly
- Having built or run large-scale storage systems
- An in-depth understanding of distributed databases and the trade-offs involved.
Work Hours:
This position will require you to be available during core business hours and sometimes outside of core hours in your region, given you will work with a global team that shares the burden of timezone management. You will also be on-call as an escalation point in team on-call rotations.

This position is open to Hybrid And Remote Work Locations.
The preferred locations for this position are:
- San Francisco, CA
- New York, NY
- Denver, CO
Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
There is a strong preference for Hybrid near a local office. However, we may be willing to consider remote candidates within the US.
This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary:
The estimated salary range for this position is $211,370 to $253,644.
