The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Senior Engineering Manager leading a Project Engineering team developing complex engineering solutions.

The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international.  As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering leadership team, the Engineering Manager ensures they have a high-performing team in place to successfully develop test solutions from inception, through deployment to customers, as well as long-term support.  Typical test solutions include Optical, In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan, as well as COTS components such as switch systems, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and other related equipment.  This hardware is coupled with custom software for performing Environmental Stress Screening, as well as testing circuit card assemblies and top-level products.

This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success.  Organizationally, the role reports to an Associate Director of Engineering in the Avionics Test Engineering organization.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and sustain a high-performing team by selecting and on-boarding exemplary new talent, and constantly training, coaching, mentoring, managing performance, and developing aspirational career plans
  • Reward and recognize key team and individual accomplishments
  • Continually ensure a strong linkage between compensation and performance
  • Align the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the team with project needs and adjust the team size and composition accordingly
  • Ensure compliance to development processes and standard work requirements while tirelessly seeking continuous process improvement
  • Review the teams engineering estimates and proposals, ensuring adherence to the test strategy and architecture as well as ability to perform
  • Identify staff, partners, facilities, and equipment required for successful execution of cognizant projects
  • Oversee the technical execution of numerous projects using performance metrics to drive decision making and continuous improvement

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • 5+ years technical knowledge in at least one of the following engineering disciplines: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software
  • 5+ years experience leading complex engineering developments ideally in the realm of test solutions
  • 5+ years experience in project execution oversight and the application of project management techniques and tools for engineering estimates, schedule, change control, earned value management, and risk / opportunity management
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
