Senior Engineer (Engineering)

Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced senior Engineer with a passion for building high performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation and platform engineering domain modernization as we redefine experience for our customers.
 

Position Description
Our Senior Engineer works with our Distinguished Engineer and Principal Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems as well as identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead Strategy and Execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in the Open-Source platform domain.

The Senior Engineer will facilitate the highly visible Correction of Error (COE) process which examines IT incidents and will provide metrics and engineering solution that will prevent a reoccurrence as well as disseminate lesson learned with other engineers and leadership teams across GEICO Tech.

Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer, you will:

• Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems
• Develop and execute technical software development strategy for the Platform Engineering domain including Service Management, Business Continuity, Recovery, Incident Response and Paging platforms
• Accountable for the quality, usability & performance of the solutions
• Deep hands-on experience in complex system design and data pipeline and architectures, scale and performance, tuning, with good knowledge on Docker and Kubernetes
• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
• Willing to take on-call and operational support
• Provide advanced Technical Debt and statistical analysis for business leaders, project teams, and managers as required. In addition, provide basic and advanced measurement approaches and mechanisms to ensure we are managing the process and producing the designed results
• Perform root cause analysis, trending and tagging of incidents with the objective of preventing reoccurrence

Qualifications

• Experience with J2EE, XML, SQL, XML, and PowerShell Scripting
• Advance knowledge of at least one OOP languages such as Java, .NET, Go, Python, C++, etc.
• Advance knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript is preferred 
• Good knowledge of one of the following languages: VB, PHP, Perl, Ruby, SQL, etc.
• Understand open-source databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc., familiar with No-SQL databases like ONgDB, Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, etc.
• Experience in architecting, designing, building automation, workflows, custom objects/apps, declarative functionality, triggers, migration tools in BMC Helix platform and transition such platform to Open Source is a big plus.
• Experience building and configuring flows, and process builders
• Strong understanding of web service integration (REST/SOAP) and enterprise middleware integration tiers
• Ability to articulate channel dataflow and process flow including email, messaging, chat, mobile Push & SDK's
• Excellent communication skills – needs to be able to lead projects from the front and interact with clients and sponsors on a regular basis
• Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production
• Experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code
• In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
• Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
• Experience with Windows Server Administration and Windows Event Log
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
• Willing to work on both fast development and operation environment
• Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, test automation and related tools, operations, real-time communication)
• Knowledge in big data and streaming data pipeline architecture (Lambda/Kappa) and K8 cluster
• Experience in open-source tools like GIT/Jenkin/CircleCI, and knowledge in Terraform/Ansible is a plus

Experience:

• 4+ years of professional experience in software development, platform architecture, administration, governance, infrastructure management, installation, and maintenance of the hardware, software, and network systems
• 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
• 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or hybrid data center
• 2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
