Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Senior Electrical Estimator to be based out of Washington State. This challenging position will provide an excellent growth opportunity while improving the infrastructure of the Pacific Northwest.

Shimmick takes on challenging projects and performs high-quality work ranging from expanding/constructing water and wastewater treatment plants to construction of the new Gerald Desmond Bridge.

Electrical Division
Shimmick’s Electrical Division, headquartered in Irvine, California, focuses on large public owners in several states, across water resources, water treatment, transportation and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility in San Diego and the $235 million EVMWD Regional Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Project in Lake Elsinore, CA.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Develop accurate and timely electrical cost estimates independently or with team - on which we base competitive bids and proposals for our client-base of General Contractors, Owners, Developers and end-users.
- Analyze and interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for potential projects.
- Generate RFIs proactively to clarify project ambiguities.
- Solicit, negotiate, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotes to secure competitive pricing.
- Determine and price value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications.
- Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narrative.
- Draft scope letters, proposals and vendor solicitations.
- Lead the functions of the Estimating Department; supervise, mentor, and develop estimating team members; on-going development and maintenance of computerized estimating programs and databases; congenial relations with clients and vendors.
- Work under deadline pressures in an efficient, composed and calm manner.
- Work on change-orders and cost-to-complete estimates of on-going projects.
- Help create and communicate company standards for estimating electrical design/build and plans and specs work.
- Represent the company professionally at job walks and client interactions.
- Review estimates created by others for accuracy and completeness.
- Lead estimate reviews, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
- Perform job handoffs from estimating to operations through clearly demonstrating detailed scopes of work, specifications and job specific conditions.
- Analyze bid outcomes and compile historical data to refine estimating strategies and enhance proposal effectiveness.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, market conditions, and emerging estimating technologies.
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key owners, prime contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educatio
- Experience in hard-bid contract work as well as conceptual estimating.
