About the role
We are looking for an experienced and experienced individual to join our team as a Lead for Expense FP&A and Expense Management at Oscar. You will lead a team of FP&A professionals responsible for financial management of Oscar’s expenses in partnership with senior business leaders. You will also establish internal and external benchmarks to advise and challenge partners to lead administrative expense efficiencies and cost improvements. Also, we are looking to develop activity cost models to provide insights into important activities that inform administrative expenses.
You will support strategic planning processes through establishing administrative expense budgets. You will also deliver expense reporting including budget vs actual variance reports. You will lead in shaping the expense structure of the organization and achieving its expense efficiency targets.
You will report to the VP, Financial Planning.
This is a remote / work-from-home role. You must reside in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, or Washington, D.C. The base pay for this role in the states of California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Washington is: $204,000 - $267,750 per year. The base pay for this role in all other locations is: $183,600 - $240,975 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar’s unlimited vacation program, company equity grants and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop team of FP&A professionals and lead agenda of expense management team in partnership with senior business leaders
- Establish external and internal benchmarks to help advise and challenge partners to lead administrative expense efficiencies and cost improvements
- Build activity cost models and support ongoing efforts to provide insights into important activities that lead administrative expense
- Lead efforts to partner with each department to provide expense trends and analyze main reasons for costs
- Support strategic planning processes including developing short-term and long-term administrative expense targets and measuring progress towards those targets
- Support the business groups in managing their spending budgets, including monthly budget vs. actual analysis, headcount reporting, expense forecast updates, annual planning, and special projects
- Lead the FP&A team in supporting the Accounting team’s monthly close process to ensure accurate financials are delivered to our partners
- Build the preparation of the administrative budget, expense forecasts, headcount reporting and supporting analyses while all ensuring their quality and accuracy
- Guide requirements and implementation in partnership with Finance transformation team for financial planning and business intelligence systems to support expense management function
- Prepare monthly budget versus actual variance analyses for both management and board of directors
Qualifications
- 10+ years of work experience, and a strong leadership and client-facing background in finance roles in the insurance, healthcare or technology industries
- 5+ years of work experience in FP&A and accounting within the insurance industry
- In-depth understanding of the business combined with seasoned judgment and experience
- Degree in Finance or Accounting; MBA
- Influence, and manage partners, including C-level executives
