Senior Director, Engineering Systems

As Marqeta’s Senior Director, Engineering Systems, you will solve complex technical problems to enable innovation at scale, while building world class developer experiences.  The Engineering Systems organization accelerates innovation, improvement, and a culture of ownership with tools to amplify Marqeta talent. We enable a secure software development lifecycle for hundreds of engineering innovators. Engineering Systems teams focus on Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Infrastructure as Code.

These teams provide an end-to-end experience for Marqeta engineers. We enable teams to build, validate, ship, monitor, and continuously improve their services and infrastructure. We make shared investments that result in other teams being more productive, more effective, and happier. We seek to empower engineering teams while simultaneously meeting the growing security needs of a financial platform that processes over $200 billion in card transactions annually. We define our success as enabling the company to be both secure and agile, and we hold ourselves accountable for the challenging, creative and innovative work needed to pull that off. The team is looking for a highly motivated Senior Director to help us build the world’s best Engineering Platform.

The Impact You’ll Have 

• Deliver a highly available, disaster-tolerant engineering system to ensure the resiliency of capabilities necessary to enable others to innovate globally.
• Anticipate and solve for internal customer needs and security requirements in durable, proactive fashion with tools that permit both agility and security.
• Manage multiple teams of highly motivated service owners to ensure a cohesive and optimal experience for the internal engineering community
• Build, develop, and scale a distributed engineering organization to enable Marqeta’s next phases of our growth.
• Instill and demonstrate a focus on key metrics of velocity, service quality, and engagement.
• Act as a technical advisor to enable and influence peers across the organization to continuously evolve our systems towards optimal efficacy.

Who You Are 

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or similar field). Will also consider candidates with equivalent work experience.
• 15+ years of experience leading technology teams and teams of teams. You are a technologist and a technology leader who has worked at large scale.
• Experience with Cloud Computing is a must. AWS experience is preferred.
• A strong commitment to Software Security is essential for the role. 
• Deep experience working with and working on CI/CD systems and software delivery pipelines.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and to deal effectively with ambiguity. 
• Prior experience with operational excellence, service ownership, incident response.
• A strong sense of Ownership, Customer Obsession, and Empathy.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. The ability to communicate complex technical ideas across all levels of the organization is critical.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

• National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
• Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
• Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.
