WHAT YOU'LL DO

Our team helps to improve automation, infrastructure reliability, and empowers Braze’s other engineering teams to leverage the infrastructure products and platforms we create easily. Braze operates at a massive scale with over 3.3 billion monthly active users across our customers, collecting hundreds of billions of data points each month, and sending billions of messages to end-users daily. We use a diverse technology stack rooted in Ruby on Rails, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, and more. You will collaborate with your team and consumer engineering teams to continuously improve the infrastructure, automation, and tooling that build internal products from these technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Database Administration & Operations:
    • Deploy, configure, and maintain MongoDB clusters (standalone, replica sets, and sharded clusters)
    • Monitor database performance, implement tuning, and resolve production issues
    • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery strategies
    • Ensure high availability and data integrity across environments
  • Automation & Infrastructure:
    • Automate routine operations using scripting tools (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Helm, Terraform, Ansible)
    • Support database deployment pipelines and CI/CD workflows
    • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response related to database systems
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Implement and maintain database security best practices including authentication, authorization, and TLS encryption
    • Work with InfoSec and Compliance teams to meet audit and policy requirements (e.g., SOX, GDPR)
  • Collaboration & Support:
    • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for MongoDB and advise engineering teams on data modeling, indexing, and query performance
    • Partner with application and platform teams to troubleshoot and optimize database-dependent services
    • Document best practices, operating procedures, and technical architecture
WHO YOU ARE
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience with MongoDB in a production environment
  • Strong understanding of MongoDB architecture (replica sets, sharding, journaling, storage engines)
  • Experience with MongoDB Enterprise tools (Ops Manager) is a plus
  • Proficient in writing and tuning MongoDB queries and aggregation pipelines
  • Familiar with backup and recovery methods (mongodump/mongorestore, Ops Manager, snapshot strategies)
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as DataDog, Prometheus, or MongoDB Ops Manager
  • Proficiency with Linux systems administration and shell scripting
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, Helm, and containerized environments is a strong advantage
  • Experience with cloud providers (AWS or Azure), especially in managed MongoDB deployments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in high-pressure environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with other databases (PostgreSQL, Cassandra) is a plus
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $120,960 and $194,400/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $134,400 and $216,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
