The Senior Data Architect owns the enterprise data architecture roadmap managed by Woodward's IT Data Warehousing team.  This role sets architectural vision and standards, leads complex, high-risk projects end-to-end, and serves as the primary technical authority for data strategy across Woodward's enterprise data platforms.  The Senior Data Architect partners with IT and business leaders to align data platform investments with organizational goals and ensure the Data Warehousing team is delivering data solutions that meet the needs of downstream users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design future-state data architectures, considering industry trends, M&A scenarios, available tools, and the long-term impacts of technology decisions.
  • Keep pace with new technology and changes in the ecosystem of tools used by the Data Warehousing team.  Assess add-ins, tools, new features, and AI implications.
  • Lead the implementation of and migration to new data platforms as required.
  • Own high-level integration patterns and map how systems relate across the data landscape (ERPs, other sources, analytical tools, etc.).  Define and enforce S/4HANA-related architecture and standards.
  • Triage new data requests, identifying where data lives and whether the requested data is accessible, and define how it will be provided to business users.
  • Translate business needs into high-level data requirements, producing "pseudo-technical" requirements for Data Engineers to execute on.
  • Provide project management and leadership for large initiatives within the Data Warehousing team and broader business, including resource allocation, planning, and delivery oversight.
  • Own stakeholder communication and engagement for both technical and non-technical audiences in the business and IT.  Advise leadership on long-term architectural risks and opportunities.
  • Mentor other members of the Data Warehousing team, contributing to the overall growth and upskilling of the team.

Key Skills:

  • SQL
  • Python/PySpark
  • Experience with ETL/ELT using Azure Synapse pipelines, Azure Data Factory, or comparable tools (AWS Glue, Google Cloud Dataflow, Apache Airflow, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP S/4HANA data structures and common data models.
  • Advanced understanding of data warehouses (cloud or on-prem), relational databases and data modeling concepts.
  • Experience with connecting to, extracting and loading data from REST APIs preferred.
