About the role

Title:

Senior Accountant

KBR is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join the Defense System Engineering Business Unit Controllership team.

The Ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing the accounting close process, backlog reporting, SOX control, unbilled reconciliation, and various special projects. Experience in government contracting, CostPoint, and Hyperion is highly desirable.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accounting Close Process:
    • Oversee and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
    • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
    • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Backlog Reporting:
    • Monitor and report on project backlogs.
    • Collaborate with project finance team to ensure accurate backlog information.
    • Analyze and interpret backlog data for management reporting.
  • SOX Control:
    • Maintain and enhance internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
    • Perform periodic SOX testing and documentation.
    • Assist with audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Unbilled Reconciliation:
    • Conduct regular unbilled reconciliation and analysis.
    • Work closely with billing and project finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Special Projects:
    • Lead and participate in various special projects as assigned by management.
    • Provide financial analysis and support for strategic initiatives.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with government contracting.
  • Proficiency in CostPoint, Cognos and HFM.
