Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Security Hardware Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot security hardware systems at our facility. This technical role focuses on the configuration, repair, and optimization of security equipment including CCTV systems, access control hardware, alarm systems, and related technologies while ensuring all systems operate at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
Security Hardware Installation & Configuration
Install, configure, and commission security equipment including surveillance cameras, access control panels, card readers, alarm sensors, and integration hardware. Mount equipment, run and terminate cables, configure hardware settings, and test system functionality to ensure proper operation before deployment.
Technical Maintenance & Repair
Perform comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance on all security hardware systems. Diagnose equipment failures, replace defective components, upgrade firmware, adjust camera positioning and focus, calibrate sensors, and repair or replace damaged cabling and connections. Conduct systematic testing of backup power systems, recording equipment, and network connectivity to ensure system reliability.
System Monitoring & Diagnostics
Monitor security hardware performance through diagnostic tools and system health dashboards to identify degraded equipment, network issues, or configuration problems. Perform real-time troubleshooting when hardware malfunctions occur, utilizing technical documentation, schematics, and test equipment to isolate and resolve issues efficiently.
Documentation & Technical Reporting
Maintain detailed technical records of all installations, repairs, maintenance activities, and system configurations in comprehensive activity reports and equipment maintenance logs. Document hardware specifications, warranty information, and service history. Report recurring hardware issues and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements to the Site Manager.
Access Control Hardware Management
Install, configure, and maintain access control hardware including electronic locks, card readers, biometric scanners, and door controllers. Program access credentials, troubleshoot reader malfunctions, verify door hardware alignment and operation, and ensure integration between access control panels and monitoring systems.
System Integration & Technical Support
Provide technical support for integrated security systems, ensuring proper communication between surveillance, access control, and alarm hardware components. Support Field and Repair Crews during system expansions, relocations, or modifications. Conduct detailed shift handovers to ensure continuity of technical support and awareness of ongoing hardware projects or issues.
Emergency Hardware Verification
Test and verify all emergency exit hardware, alarm notification devices, and life safety integration points to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety regulations. Perform scheduled testing of backup battery systems and emergency power supplies.
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver's license required for travel to equipment locations and vendor sites
- Industry certifications preferred: Security+, manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Axis, Milestone, Genetec), or equivalent technical credentials
Experience & Skills
- Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and repairing CCTV systems, IP cameras, and video management hardware
- Strong understanding of security hardware architecture, network connectivity, PoE systems, and low-voltage wiring
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, cable testers, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment
- Knowledge of access control hardware components, electronic lock mechanisms, and credential technologies
- Experience with preventive maintenance procedures, technical troubleshooting methodologies, and root cause analysis
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
