REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES
The responsibilities of the Security Guard position include patrolling facilities and properties either on foot or by vehicle. Patrols properties against possible loss/damage from theft, trespassing, fire, vandalism, or other hazards, utilizing a guard tour system. Screens visitors and employees as they enter facilities, or meetings, utilizing x-ray machines and walk-through/hand-held detectors. Monitors integrated access control, fire alarm systems, and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems. Processes employee identification badges. Operates an integrated security access control and intrusion detection system. Completes security logs and event reports with accuracy. Possesses knowledge of Computer Operating Systems and proficient in using Microsoft Word and Excel. Escorts visitors and employees into, throughout, and out of facilities and properties. Performs critical functions during emergency situations. Investigates non-emergency and emergency situations to determine cause of situation. Multi-tasks in a diverse fast paced environment.PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with Federal Bureau of Investigations /Florida Department of Law Enforcement security policies, the FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services Access Security Policy requires that all criminal justice agencies (including Broward Sheriff's Office, State Attorney's Office, and Medical Examiner's Office) have documentation of enhanced background screening on file for all personnel who may conduct any type of unescorted work or duties within any location that Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is housed (i.e., any type of computer or computer system/network with direct access to CJI). Therefore, this position may require (1) proof of state of residency and (2) passing and maintaining a Level 2 Background Screening.
Performs security work in safeguarding county installations and operations.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsRequires one (1) year of security experience or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and LicensesPossess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
Possess and maintain a valid Security Guard License - Florida.
PreferencesAssociate's degree with major course work in the security or safety field
Bachelors degree in criminal justice, personal protection management, emergency services management or public administration
Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the security or safety field
Completion of a certified Crisis Intervention training course or program
Completion of a certified Security Investigation course
Completion of a certified Crowd Control course or program
Completion of FEMA/DHS on-line security awareness courses
At least (2) two years of experience using monitor integrated access control and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems
At least (2) two years experience using security screening equipment (x-ray scanner, magnetometer, and hand-held wand metal detector)
Examples of duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Patrols assigned areas on foot, completes a safety walk through of facility to locate and report any hazardous or unsafe conditions; protects persons, property and information; investigates and reports hazards and unusual or suspicious circumstances to police.
Monitors the security cameras of assigned property as well other County properties; reports emergency problems from employees to the on call supervisor.
Disseminates courteous directional information to patrons upon entry to the facility; acts to protect persons, property and information at Broward County Government Centers and Courthouse locations; ascertains photo identification and verifies identity when necessary; resolves external and internal customer
