JOB SUMMARY
Security Communications Coordinators in Campus Security maintains oversight of alarm systems, access control and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in support of campus security and acts as liaison with other University Departments and emergency services. Security Communications Coordinators efficiently address inquires in a professional manner, helping to ensure the safety and security of UBC Okanagan campus faculty, staff, students and visitors as well as University property.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
Reports directly to the Manager, Communications and patrol with UBC Okanagan Campus Security.
WORK PERFORMED
Coordinates communication with respect to security activities:
- Operates and controls the 24/7 communications network for day-to-day issues that may include, but is not limited to: security, parking, facilities management, Safe Walk, Blue Phone, residences, and all campus buildings and properties.
- Controls the 24/7 communications network, acts as liaison with local emergency services such as RCMP, Ambulance, Fire Department, and/or all University Departments and contacting appropriate UBC authorities and administrators in the event of an emergency.
- Controls, assesses and analyzes numerous computer databases for information and relays as needed to the appropriate departments, authorities and persons.
- Conducts regular systems integrity checks according to established protocols and deals with outcomes.
Supervises and oversees the contract security workers ensuring they respond and give proper assistance to the campus as needed:
- Receives complaints, dispatches issues to appropriate personnel and documents in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Investigates complaints, reports, makes recommendations for outcomes and follows up on issues both remotely and in-person if necessary.
- Responds to critical and emergent situations and assist as required, including but not limited to fire response, mechanical building issues, student misconduct, police incidents, administering first-aid and/or CPR/AED/oxygen therapy as required. Including occupational first-aid in accordance with Work Safe BC regulations.
- Provides oversight in the field for patrols and incident response to ensure compliance with contract, best practices, and assist in completion of their duties as required.
- Operates security systems including CCTV, intrusion alarm systems, Access Control Systems and dispatching Campus Security personnel.
Ensures appropriate documentation is completed as per regulations:
- Coordinates and maintains logs, various reports (Incident Reports) and other information records.
- Provides direction, training and feedback to contracted security workers with respect to required documentation.
Participates in inter-departmental initiatives with an eye to sharing information and ideas from a safe and secure campus perspective.
Anticipates short notice call outs to fill shift coverage requests.
Performs other related duties as required.
