10x GenomicsAbout the role
We are seeking a Scientist 1 to join the Assay Productization team to support the development and commercial launch of new in situ and microscopy-based products. Assay Productization acts as the interface between R&D and Production. The team is involved in all stages of product development from concept to post-launch activities. This is a unique cross-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups including Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Optical imaging, QC, and Manufacturing, to develop and validate novel reagents for the rapid expansion of 10x product lines. Candidates must have a broad working knowledge of chemistry, protein science, and molecular biology and be able to apply that knowledge creatively and independently in a fast-paced work environment. Research experience with DNA oligos, antibody assays, RNA assays, and next generation sequencing (NGS) is desired. Experience in new product introduction and manufacturing operations is a big plus. The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously execute and analyze highly complex experiments.
Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction and methods, thrive in a fast-paced environment, excel at managing multiple priorities, succeed in communicating with all levels within the organization and provide immediate contribution.
What you will be doing:
- Lead and/or assist in new product development for in situ assays and transfer to manufacturing.
- Represent the Assay Productization group in meetings with R&D, manufacturing or other groups.
- Support the assay development team in the optimization of novel molecular biology assay schemes for the detection of analytes in situ.
- Proactively identify risks in the product development process related to reagent/consumable supply, cost of goods, and manufacturability of products.
- Establish relationships with external vendors in order to facilitate the procurement of reagents/consumables.
- Lead reagent guard banding, stability studies and troubleshooting.
- Independently design and perform in situ experiments in a variety of mammalian cells and tissue samples.
- Image tissue samples under wide field and confocal microscopies.
- Analyze and present results in meetings.
- Prepare, formulate, and test newly designed 10x reagents either from SOPs or R&D protocols.
- Conceive, develop, and implement new QC methods to assess reagent quality through a variety of analytical and functional tests.
- Write and update batch records, material specifications and analytical methods and train other lab personnel.
- Work within multidisciplinary teams.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S./M.S. or Ph.D. in in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field.
- For B.S./M.S., 4+ years of relevant biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Experience in a process or product development role, especially technology transfer to manufacturing and/or QC groups.
- Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques such as sample preparation, nucleic acid amplification and purification (RNA/DNA), and DNA/RNA in situ hybridization experience.
- Light and fluorescent microscopy experience.
- Proven ability to use a variety of scientific equipment including plate readers, Bioanalyzers, gel imagers, thermal cyclers, real-time PCR instruments etc.
- Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis.
- Ability to perform complex multi-step experiments with detailed and diligent attention to planning, organization, hands-on technique, and record keeping.
- Experience troubleshooting molecular biology-based assays and issues with reagent quality (manufacturing process, QC and stability).
- Proven ability to write detailed SOPs and train others to successfully perform the work.
- Experience generating reports/presentations and forecasting reagent usage and costs.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- An affinity for detail, especially in planning and executing complex tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities.
- Desire to work in a flexible and fast-paced startup environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience in antibody conjugation/purification/detection
- Experience in DNA oligo synthesis
