Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Science Intern to be based in Conshohocken, PA.
This position is expected to begin in Summer 2025.
The intern will be expected to fulfill the following critical responsibilities:
- Familiarize oneself with AECOM's field survey equipment, data forms, and other data collection and reporting tools, adhering to strict professional standards.
- Conduct stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments, and other ecological field surveys in accordance with established protocols and under the supervision of AECOM ecological teams.
- Contribute to the development of field data sheets and reports, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in all written materials.
- Engage in professional communication with various governmental agencies regarding ecological survey protocols, reporting standards, and endangered and threatened species coordination.
- Utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) programs, specifically ESRI software, to create precise field maps and report mapping.
- Conduct thorough desktop research to complete comprehensive environmental impact assessments.
- Demonstrate a commitment to meeting project deadlines, achieving billable hours targets, and contributing to other company objectives.
- Exhibit critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative approach with different teams within our Environment business line.
- Maintain flexibility in work schedules, including potential travel, to ensure timely project completion and client satisfaction.
The intern is expected to approach these responsibilities with the utmost professionalism and dedication, recognizing the significant impact of their work on AECOM's projects and reputation in the field of environmental planning and permitting.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree program in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, GIS, or another related field and must have completed at least two years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must have a valid U.S driver’s license and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Be able to travel to the Conshohocken, Pennsylvania office at least 3 days per week.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Be able to work independently or in a team environment, both in-person and virtually.
- GIS software experience is preferred but not required for this position. AECOM utilizes ESRI based software including ArcPro and ArcMap.
