About the role

As the Ryco Lead, you will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of Ryco equipment, perform routine inspections, maintenance tasks, and repairs to ensure the equipment is functioning efficiently and safely. You will ensure that the equipment is running efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant regulations. Ryco Leads also provides technical support to plant operators and maintenance personnel. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, enforcing safety protocols, and promoting a positive team culture. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

  • Responsible for training employees prior to work as needed.   
  • Ensure the production line starts on time, make sure all employees are wearing proper PPE.   
  • Give instructions to employees about current production information like lot code, number of fish running, pounds per hour to achieve, quality of fish, employees concern and areas that needs to address.   
  • Responsible for break schedules, sending employees on break in a timely manner and getting them back on the line on time.   
  • Must meet set volume of produced products with excellent quality.   
  • Work closely with QA to ensure high quality of products and correct HACCP rules are adhered to.  
  • Responsible in the operation of the following areas, as assigned: baskets, Ryco machines, hand butcher table, slime line, graders, gutters.   
  • Assist the Ryco Supervisor in training employees in species sorting, header/gutter output accuracy, straightening fish, accurate grade/size and head cuts.   
  • Responsible for production clean-up to maintain the cleanliness of production area. 
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

  • Ryco Equipment Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Ryco equipment, including its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. 
  • Process Understanding: Understanding of the overall processing plant operations and how Ryco equipment contributes to the process. 
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions and performance issues. 
  • Safety Regulations: Adherence to safety regulations and procedures to prevent accidents and hazards. 
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and optimize operations. 
  • Maintenance Planning: Developing and implementing maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability and longevity. 
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to Ryco equipment and its operation. 

Interpersonal  

  • Leadership: Ability to lead and manage a team of operators or technicians responsible for Ryco equipment. 
  • Communication: Effective communication with plant personnel, management, and regulatory agencies. 
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve complex equipment-related issues. 
  • Decision-Making: Making sound and timely decisions based on available information and data. 

Education and Experience  

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.  
  •  Minimum of 1 year industry experience maintaining, trouble shooting and rebuilding Ryco machinery. Experience safely operating shop tools and equipment such as power tools, drill press, grinders, cutting torches, etc.  
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel & Word) programs preferred.  
  • Basic fabrication and welding ability preferred.  
  • Must have the ability to diagnose, repair and rebuild Ryco equipment.  
  • Must have the ability to adjust machinery during production to achieve quality standards and production goals.  

Work Environment and Schedule   

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold.
