Summary

City Market Co-Op is seeking a Retail Sales and Category Coordinator (RSCC) to coordinate the on-going work of the Purchasing and Merchandising department and help facilitate smooth operations between the Purchasing and Merchandising department and all other departments. The RSCC assists with developing and maintaining City Market’s vendor relationships, category management, pricing and margin control, compliance audits, product procurement, and promotional programming systems for all revenue-generating departments.

Day-to-Day Duties

  • Develop strong professional relationships with City Market’s vendors, distributors, sales representatives, and brokers. 
  • Follow category management principles to plan department physical resets, make slotting decisions for new items, and address unslotted or discontinued items. As applicable, utilize internal sales data, SPINS/SATORI reports, knowledge of industry trends, conditions of local market, seasonality, and item selection and price strategy goals as set by the PPS and Retail Operations Manager[ROM] to ensure sets are profitable, well planned, and merchandised across all store locations.
  • Perform regular sales and contribution to margin analysis by category, vendor, or sub-department using internal sales data as assigned by the PPS (produce).
  • Create and maintain accurate cost records within SMS and other internal tracking documents such as the produce price sheets, weekly winners file, fresh deals file etc.
  • Make sound pricing decisions for products across all subdepartments using a dynamic/variable margin strategy to achieve overall subdepartment margin goals under the guidance of the PPS.
  • Assist PPS’s with the strategic creation of dynamic sales offerings for the internal Weekly Winner program, utilizing promotional offerings from UNFI, AGNE, ALOR, FSPR, and other distributors, scan-backs or promotional pricing from local producers, and MCB discounts negotiated with sales reps or brokers.
  • Communicate weekly plans in detail with POS, Community and Marketing, department manager(s), and buyer(s) to ensure the program is followed and implemented accurately.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate product information in the point-of-sale system, including cost (and any applicable discounts), retail price, authorized vendor, attributes (local, made in Vermont, fair trade, gluten free, organic, kosher), and food stamp and taxable status.
  • Function as a retail information liaison between the different departments of the co-op. Regularly attend department huddles and buyers meetings to stay informed regarding the day-to-day procedures of assigned department(s), and convey relevant Purchasing and Merchandising news as needed. Foster positive relationships with all staff.
  • Cross-train in the general functions of the Scan Coordinator and monitor the POS inbox in their absence, completing POS requests as able.
  • Assist PPS with weekly updates of local and non-local order guides, ensuring proper item and vendor selection, notes on out of stocks or quality issues etc.
  • Assist PPS in weekly cost/price changes in SMS to maintain overall subdepartment achieved margin goals.
  • Provide excellent customer service to community members and co-workers.
  • Compliance with established City Market procedures and practices regarding operations, sales, safety, and security.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Three years of buying and/or purchasing experience required OR four years of retail experience required.
  • In depth understanding of margin and pricing strategies strongly preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Knowledge of natural and conventional foods and the food industry required.
  • Experience with POS or inventory management software preferred.
