GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

• Provides general respiratory therapy procedures to patients as directed by physicians and protocols. 

• Procedures include, but are not limited to, Non-Invasive positive pressure ventilation management (NPPV), delivery of medicated aerosols, bronchial hygiene therapy, lung expansion therapy, and basic CPR. 

• Demonstrates the ability to recognize change in the patient’s condition, make independent judgments, and modify the care as necessary according to departmental standards and approved physician protocols. 

• Cleans, packages, inventories and maintains all respiratory care equipment. 

• Checks, delivers, and replenishes respiratory supplies as needed.  Orders department forms and supplies weekly.  

• Serves as a floor care therapist or equipment technician.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Graduate of or actively enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Program required.

• Successful completion of  the first clinical year preferred.

• Holds either a provisional license to practice, as a Respiratory Therapist, per the Idaho State Board of Medicine or enrolled as a full-time student in a American Medical Association acknowledged Respiratory Therapy program.

• Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

• Demonstrates ability to correctly clean and assemble respiratory equipment and perform the other job functions of the equipment technician, (e.g., patient billing, floor stocking, supply inventory and ordering).

• Revenue management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.

• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).

• Performs and monitors clinical effectiveness of general floor therapy modalities only (not critical care qualified). 

• Demonstrates knowledge and application of non-invasive ventilation (NPPV or BiPAP).
